Texas A&M Prof Discusses Gambling in Early Days of Baseball

I’d say it’s starting in the latter 19th century
when games become a little bit more formal rather than just pasture games, but when they’re
actually rivalries between towns, small towns. But really the gambling is embedded in what
farmers do anyways. For farmers, farming everyday is a gamble. You gamble every year on the
weather, you gamble on how good of a crop you’re going to have. You gamble on when is
the best time to sell your crop. So gambling in the game is simply and extension
of that and they gambled on everything, not just who wins the game. You could gamble on
whether on the next pitch is going to be a strike or not, whether the out fielder is
going to catch the ball, they gambled on everything.

  1. …hmmm… not-neceserily… because in-reality… you just have to calculate-the-odds… and what-are-the-chances of something happend… hmmm… yet with baseball… and the game-of-baseball…  it was to help-pass-the-time… and NOT-for-gambeling… and so when you ate-drank-and-reelaxed and took-a-nap on the grass there was no-point-in-gambeling on-something that you or your-own friend-of-a-friend might try to make-money-on… and to cash-in on the austronomical-odds-of-winning on… hmmm… and so with games streching as long as eight/8 hours… or longer… with there being an obvies-conflict-of-interest… if maybe you-your-self bet-against-your-own-team… and then to loose… and to make-money from loosing… hmmm… and everyone knew this… and this was always the accusation… and the assumption… for when a player made-mistakes and-or made-errors… of how a team-mate has placed-a-wagger/wajjer for his-own-team to loose-the-game… hmmm… with players making side-bets to throw-you-off… or checking if your an honest-player… hmmm… because as always… it always payed-MORE to  loose-the-game… hmmm… sad-yet-true… hmmm… and so when you-your-self had-and-owned-and-managed a a-struggeling-baseball-team… who would loose the good-players to some big-shot-from-up-town-Manhaton… you-your-self along with your-own-team… would make-a-living from trying-your-best… yet somehow as always… always loosing at the end… with the richer-team-managers-and-owners  always calling-you-in  to-talk-in-private in a fancy-office-enviroment…  hmmm($$$$) …to put-on an exhisting-game for the fans and family-members… and to never-alowe for your-own-team to  too-get-too-hot/good… to avoid the publicaty… and to make-money either-way… yet to just to put-the-damper-on-it… or to maybe to bench the best-player for unsportmanship-conduct… to be the strickt-coach… who yells at his own adult-players(not-kids)… and disciplines his own players… and to make-shure that the fans vishually-see… of how you-bust-your-own… whenever there are any disagreements with anyone… hahahaha …and …hehehe…
