San Antonio final resting spot for 2 Hall of Fame baseball players

STADIUMS WHILE THE COWBOYS WILL HOST THE GIANTS SUNDAY AT 3:25. WHEN IT COMES TO REMEMBERING AND HONORING BASEBALL HALL OF FAMERS EVERYBODY THINKS ABOUT COOPERSTOWN. DID YOU KNOW THAT TWO MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL HALL OF FAMERS ARE LAID TO REST HERE IN SAN ANTONIO, BASEBALL ENTHUSIAST AND BAYLOR PROFESSOR JOHN WOOD SPENT 10 YEARS VISITING THE GRAVES OF MORE THAN 50 HALL OF FAMERS WHO PASSED AWAY. HE TELLS THE PERSONAL UNTOLD STORIES OF 50 HALL OF FAMERS IN HIS BOOK “BEYOND THE BALLPARK.”>>I’M ALWAYS IMPRESSED WITH THE NUMBER OF ITEMS THAT PEOPLE LEAVE, LIKE GLOVES AND BASEBALLS AND BASEBALL PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THESE FOLKS. THEY VISIT THESE GRAVE SITES MORE THAN YOU MIGHT THINK.>>Larry: TWO MEMBERS OF THE HALL OF FAME ARE BURIED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF SAN ANTONIO. ROSS YOUNGS BORN IN SHINER PLAYED 10 SEASONS FOR THE NEW YORK GIANTS BEFORE DYING OF A KIDNEY DISORDER. WADDEL PLAYED 13 YEARS IN THE MAJORS WHEN HE DIED IN PNEUMONIA.>>WHEN WADDELL DIED, HE WAS 37. HE WAS BURIED IN ANOTHER CEMETERY, I’M NOT SURE WHICH, AND LATER WAS MOVED, AND SOME OF HIS MANAGERS, LIKE CONNIE MAC AND OTHERS, DONATED MONEY FOR THAT IMPRESSIVE SIX-FOOT GRANITE MONUMENT. NOW, WITH ROSS YOUNGS, HE WAS BORN IN SHINER, BUT RAISED THERE I SAN ANTONIO. HE HAS A LITTLE TINY MONUMENT, BUT THEN IN 1935, SOME LOCAL PEOPLE HAD SOME CHARITY GAMES AND RAISED ENOUGH TO PUT THIS NICE MONUMENT FOR HIM. IN BOTH CASES, THEY WERE, YOU KNOW, KIND OF PUT IN THE GROUND WITH A LITTLE MARKER BUT LATER SOME OF THEIR OLD TEAMMATES AND PEOPLE THAT KNEW THEM RAISED THE MONEY TO PUT A NICE MONUMENT FOR THEM.>>Larry: THERE’S A LOT OF INTERESTING STORIES ABOUT THESE HALL OF FAMERS “BOND THE BALLPARK.” CAN BE FOUND
