Pros and Cons of the 2018 Louisville Slugger Solo 618 -11 USA Bat

You’ve got a youth baseball player and you’re
looking for the right bat. In this video, I’m going to talk about the
2018 Louisville Slugger Solo 618, and share the pros and cons with you. First, let’s cover a few of the features. It’s an -11 drop ratio bat and approved
for USA Baseball leagues. The barrel has a diameter of 2 5/8 inches. It ranges in sizes from 28 inches (17 ounces)
to 32 inches (21 ounces). Now let’s take a look at this bat’s pros. Its one-piece construction gives you a stiffer
feel that some players like. This rigidity helps ensure that when you make
contact with the ball, you generate the maximum force that will propel the ball farther. Because it’s -11, the bat is lighter and
easier to swing. That makes your swings faster and more powerful. At the end of the bat there’s a SBC (Speed
Ballistic Cap) which provides the lowest MOI (Moment of Inertia) and the quickest speed
in the whole Louisville Slugger baseball bat range. The Lizard Skins grip on the handle is a bonus
too. It provides the secure grip needed to boost
confidence at the plate. Many players love the colors and design of
the bat and it’s also very affordable. Now let’s take a look at the cons. The biggest complaint about this bat is that
it’s just … ordinary. There’s nothing super special about it to
make it stand out. It has a sweet spot, but it’s pretty average
compared to other bats. This is more likely to create vibrations with
hits. While the barrel is 2 5/8 inches, it’s actually
only that size for the top 2 inches of the bat. The remainder of the barrel is slightly smaller. If you’d like to learn more about the Louisville

  1. My son swings this bat and more often than not gets great results. He is not a power hitter but he has put 2 over the left fielders head this year and has gotten a couple hits to the 5-6 hole and up the niddle because the ball jumps off the barrel better than other USA bats. I highly recommend this bat for the thinner less powerful player to help close the gap.

  2. By my measurement, the max barrel length for 2 5/8 diameter barrel is around 7" . Could you explain how you figure 2" for the 2 5/8 barrel?
