Pittsburgh Pirates Losing Streak Calls For Clean House

OF THEIR LAST 20 GAMES. THE TEAM INFORMATION STRIKING DISTANCE OF A PLAYOFF SPOT OF THE ALL-STAR BREAK BUT EVER SINCE HAVE BEEN SLIDING DOWN IN THE STANDINGS AND FANS ARE CALLING FOR SOME CHANGES. JOHN SHUMWAY IS LIVE AT PNC PARK RIGHT NOW WITH COMMENTS FROM FANS AND THE GENERAL MANAGER AS WELL. JOHN. Reporter: THE PIRATES ARE 25th OUT OF THE 30 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAMS IN ATTENDANCE AT JUST OVER 1.1 MILLION. THE FACT IS THEY NEED FANS TO COME AND SPEND THEIR DOLLARS AT THE TICKET WINDOW AND TO GO THROUGH THESE GATES AND TO FILL THESE STANDS. THE GENERAL MANAGER NEAL HUNTINGTON SAID HE KNOWS HIS JOB IS ON THE LINE, ACKNOWLEDGES THE NEED FOR CHANGES BUT NOT CHANGES DRIVEN BY FRUSTRATION OR EMOTIONS. THE TOWERING HOME RUN FOR JOSH BELL. Reporter: IT HAD ALL THE TRAPPINGS OF LIFTING THE DARK CLOUD OF DEFEAT. TWO HOME RUNS TODAY FOR JOSH BELL. Reporter: JOSH BELL SEEMED TO BE BACK ON TRACK AND THE TEAM WAS UP BY FOUR RUNS, BUT — I SOMETIMES DON’T LIKE TO WATCH THE GAMES BECAUSE THEY SEEM TO UPSET ME. Reporter: AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE ROUTINE BECOMES NO GUARANTEE. WHEN A PITCHER HITS NOT ONE, BUT TWO BATTERS ON CONSECUTIVE PITCHES AND THEN — DEEP, CARDINALS LEAD. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE, I ASSUME. WE’RE THE CITY OF CHAMPIONS, RIGHT? SO PIRATES HAVEN’T REALLY BEEN CHAMPIONS TOO MUCH LATELY. Reporter: YESTERDAY EXTENDED THE PIRATES’ LOSING STREAK TO EIGHT AND 24 LOSSES IN THE LAST 28 GAMES. THAT WOULD DEFINITELY BE THE PLAYERS, BUT WHY ARE THEY NOT PERFORMING? MAYBE IT IS MANAGEMENT. Reporter: ON HIS WEEKLY RADIO SHOW PIRATES GENERAL MANAGER NEAL HUNTINGTON FELL ON HIS SWORD. MYSELF WHO IS ULTIMATELY TO SHOULDER THE RESPONSIBILITY AND THE BLAME FOR THIS IS ME. WHETHER IT’S THE GENERAL MANAGER OR MANAGER, THEY ARE HIRED TO BE FIRED. Reporter: FANS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE ON BLAME AND WHO SHOULD GO. IT STARTS WITH HURDLE. Reporter: OTHERS POINT TO HUNTINGTON AND ABOVE. YOU KNOW, THEY’VE BEEN SAYING THAT THEIR METHOD WORKS FOR YEARS AND WE DON’T HAVE A WINNING TEAM. SO MAYBE THEY COULD TRY SOMETHING ELSE. Reporter: MANY POINT AT DOLLARS SPENT AND THE MAN AT THE TOP, OWNER BOB NUTTING. IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE. SELL THEM TO SOMEBODY WHO CARES FOR THE CITY. Reporter: AND YET YOU WILL STILL FIND OPTIMISTS. BECAUSE THEY’RE CLOSE. THEY’RE STILL FIGHTING, BUT THEY GOT TO FIGHT EXTRA HARD. Reporter: YEAH. IN FACT, THAT FAITH ACTUALLY IS IN PART IN CLINT HURDLE WHO IN 2007 LED THE ROCKIES TO AN IMPROBABLE RUN TO THE PLAYOFFS AND MADE IT TO THE WORLD SERIES BEFORE THEIR LUCK RAN OUT. GENERALLY SPEAKING, WHEN YOU TALK TO FANS, IF THEY’RE GOING TO MAKE A CHANGE, THEY WOULD

  1. If they are losing to every team, i guess the whole team needs to be dispersed and bring new players. Believe me, it will only get worse and worse if they dont act quickly and buy and bring new talents. One fact is pirates has been the training camp for other team for many years.

  2. I would like ti see fans to turn on really hard on this team and tell them they will stop supporting embrassing, losers team. if they do these, i bet you, the owner will step in and start spending

  3. they need a new coach and they need a better picture they need to quit quit get rid of our guys especially if they are good for the team 😉
