PHS wins baseball title

KEN: FOR MOST OF THE SECTION 7 HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL SEASON, I’VE HEARD PEOPLE SAY THEY WERE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE PLATTSBURGH VERSE BEEKMANTOWN MATCH UPS. AND WHILE I’VE COVERED MY FAIR SHARE OF BASEBALL THIS SEASON I WAS UNABLE TO SEE EITHER OF THE REGULAR SEASON HEAD TO HEADS. BUT TODAY EVERYONE GOT WHAT THEY WANTED, PLATTSBURGH AND BEEKMANTOWN, AND THIS TIME I WAS THERE. THE PHS HORNETS WON BOTH REGULAR SEASON GAMES, BUT WE KNOW IT’S HARD TO BEAT THE SAME TEAM, THREE TIMES IN ONE YEAR. BOTTOM OF THE FIRST, FOLLOWING A JUSTIN STEVENS TRIPLE TO CENTER, ALEX PRICE DRIVES THE PITCH TO LEFT, STEVENS SCORES, 1-0 BEEKMANTOWN. IN THE GERRIT REITSMA, GOES TO SECOND, THE SAME SPOT, PRICE IS THERE TO KEEP IT IN THE INFIELD, BUT HIS THROW CAN’T BEAT THE RUNNER. REITSMA IS SAFE, AND BRADY PENNINGTON IS HOME FOR THE TYING RUN. THE HORNETS WOULD TAKE THE LEAD ON AN INTERESTING PLAY, AGAIN INVOLVING PRICE, HE STEPS ON SECOND BUT RYAN WHALEN COMES IN AWKWARDLY. HE’S OUT, AND AN INTERFERENCE CALL TURNS IT INTO A DOUBLE PLAY, BUT ANDREW BECHARD SCORES REGUARDLESS. PHS IN FRONT 2-1. — REGARDLESS. PHS IN FRONT 2-1. IT STAYED THAT WAY INTO THE TOP OF THE 5TH, WHERE WE FOUND, WHO ELSE BUT ALEX PRICE, AGAIN DRIVING IN RUNS, 2 TO BE EXACT. JAKE WYAND, AND ZACH BINGEL SCORE, BEEKMANTOWN BACK IN FRONT 3-2. NEXT BATTER IS BRANTLEY MARION, GOING THROUGH THE RIGHT SIDE, STEVENS SCORES AGAIN. THE LEAD DOUBLES TO 4-2. IT’S 5-2, WHEN COLDEN MRAK SHOOTS THE PITCH TO LEFT, I FOLLOW RYAN CRISS IN FROM SECOND. HE PUTS THE FINISHING TOUCHES ON A 5 RUN INNING, AND THE EAGLES BUILD A 4 RUN LEAD, 6-2. BOTTOM HALF OF THE INNING, PENNINGTON GETS ONE OF THE RUNS BACK, GOING THE OTHER WAY. WHALEN SCORES, CUTS THE DEFICIT IN HALF 6-3. BOTTOM OF THE SIXTH, IT’S A 1 RUN GAME 6-5, WHEN BEN CHAMPAGNE PUTS THE BALL IN PLAY, THE THE FLIP TO 2ND WOULD ALLOW 2 RUNS TO SCORE. BECAHRD ALREADY IN, ALEX FOLLMER FOLLOWS. THE HORNETS COMEBACK FROM DOWN 4, TO GO UP 7-6. PENNINGTON AND MIKE STETZ WOULD FOLLOW WITH RBI HITS, MAKING IT 10-6 HEADING INTO THE FINAL INNING. A LEAD THAT WOULD HOLD UP, AS BECHARD CAMPS OUT UNDER THE FLY BALL FOR THE FINAL OUT. AND LET THE CELEBRATING BEGIN, PLATTSBURGH HIGH WINS THE CLASS “B” SECTION 7 BASEBALL TITLE. OUR TEAM DOESN’T QUIT. WE HAD A LOT OF GUYS STEP UP, ESPECIALLY HUNTER BEHIND THE PLATE. WE DID A GREAT JOB RALLYING AND COMING BACK FOR THE WIN. THE WHOLE YEAR THE COLLEGE NEVER GAVE UP. I WAS CONFIDENT, THERE WAS A LOT OF THE GAME LEFT. WE HIT THE BALL WELL AND WE ATTACKED IN THAT INNING AND PLUGGED AWAY IN THE LAST. IT SHOWS WE CAN COME BACK AND PLAY AS A TEAM AND WE HIT THE BALL WHEN WE WENT TO HIT THE BALL. AT NEVER FELT ANYTHING BETTER THAN THEIRS. AS A SOPHOMORE, IT REALLY GETS TO ME. THE BOYS DID PRETTY GOOD AND I’M HAPPY TO SEE THEM HOLDING ONTO THE TROPHY.
