Ocean Lakes baseball honors Virginia Beach, advances to state semifinal

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEK. TONIGHT, OCEAN LAKES SHUTOUT COLONIAL FORGE 2-TO-NOTHING IN IN THE QUARTERFINAL ROUND OF THE CLASS 6 STATE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT, AND AS NATHAN EPSTIEN REPORTS THE DOLPHINS LOOK TO CARRY THE VB STRONG BANNER ALL THE WAY TO THE STATE FINALS. (“WHAT A GREAT CROWD, WHAT A GREAT COMMUNITY. THE HOME CHEERED A LITTLE LOUDER— THAT WAS A MONSTER CROWD OUT HERE TODAY. IT JUST FELT GREAT. AND FOR A TEAM TRYING TO LIFT A GRIEVING COMMUNITY, EVERY BASE HIT, EVERY SPRINT TO FIRST MEANT JUST A LITTLE MORE. IT JUST ADDS A LITTLE EXTRA FIGHT TRYING TO REPRESENT THE WHOLE CITY, AND TRYING TO DO A LITTLE BIT MORE. AND IN A MOMENT THIS CROWD WON’T SOON FORGET, THERE WERE ONLY TWO RUNS SCORED THIS ENTIRE GAME; A TWO-RUN HOME RUN HIT BY JUNIOR SCOTT HINES THAT FLEW JUST FAIR INSIDE THE FOUL POLE, JUST TO RIGHT OF THAT SIGN. HASHTAG V-B STRONG. A SYMBOL THIS TEAM WILL CARRY WITH THEM EACH STEP THEY TAKE TOWARDS A CHAMPIONSHIP. WE KEEP THAT IN THE BACK OF OUR HEAD. WE’RE PLAYIING HARD FOR VIRGINIA BEACH. IT’S JUST SOMETHING WE KEEP WITH US. HOPEFULLY SOMEWHERE DEEP DOWN INSIDE, IT HAD A LITTLE EXTRA MEANING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT ARE PART OF VIRGINIA BEACH. IF WE WIN THIS CHAMPIONSHIP, THAT WOULD BE PRETTY COOL TO BRING THAT BACK TO VIRGINIA BEACH, AND REPRESENT THE 757. EVEN IF IT JUST AFFECTS A COUPLE PEOPLE, WE’RE JUST TRYING TO BE A BRIGHT FRIDAY MORNING IN RICHMOND. IN VIRGINIA BEACH, NATHAN EPSTEIN FOR THE SPORTSWRAP. “)
