News 8 Sports Round Up – May 5, 2016

It’s been some six-day stretch for Logan senior pitcher Jordyn Kleman. It began Saturday with a no-hitter against River Valley. Then a no-hitter against Tomah on Monday. Followed by a perfect game Tuesday against Sparta. Kleman now eyes up Onalaska… . as she goes for a fourth-straight no-hit performance on the mound. She got some run support in the 2-nd . Kylie Dohlby back up the middle for the R-B-I . 6 cross the plate in the inning. Then Kleman goes to work . Everything working for her today . strikes out the side in the third. Logan then extends the lead . Audra Waite finds some open grass . Rangers up 13 going to the 5-th. Kleman just 3 outs away . and how about this . strikes out the side once again. KIeman’s line in this one. 12-K, one walk, and zero-hits. her fourth straight no-hitter as Logan wins 13-nothing. I think it kind of lit a fire under us and we’re just going with it and we don’t like losing. I’ve just been really focused throughout the games and the support of my team always helps. De Soto is nine-and-oh and in first place in the Ridge and Valley. hosting second place. seven-and-two Seneca. 5th inning. Cassidy Trussoni grounds to short. De sotot sends Julie Wopat home and the Pirates take a 1-0 lead… Next batter… Roxannen Haakenson sends one deep
to the wall in centerfield. That drives home a pair. De Soto now up 3-0. Seneca with an answer. Crazy play here. Hailey Wall bunts for a hit. she then takes off for second and is out. However that sneaks in a run. 3-1 the score. Same score now in the 7th inning. Emily Garfoot gets one past both the third basemen and leftfielder.. RBI triple. and then on a wild throw tries to go home. but the throw comes in time and she’s out. What a ballgame. that would have been the trying run. De Soto wins 3-2. The M-V-C baseball championship chase should be an interesting one to follow over these final 19-days of the regular season. First through fourth place. a half-game seperating each. Logan enters the night in first place. . hosting a fourth-place Onalaska team just a couple games back. Rangers jump on the board right away . Nathen Baker . he’ll touch them all . two run shot to left. Few batters later . Jack Hinton . that gets down in center for the R-B-I . 4 – 0 Logan. Ona looking for offense in the third . Zach Earl gives it to them . R-B-I double to deep center. But the Ranger’s bats to hot tonight . Tanner Holzer shot to left . 2 more cross the plate. First-place Logan wins eleven-to-one to stay at the top of the standings. Second-place Aquinas. who enters the day tied in the loss column with Logan. hosts Sparta. Bluegolds get hot early. Alex Schulte sends one deep
over the head of the centerfielder. RBI double for him makes it 1-0… Next inning. Tim Betts hits a shallow flyout. However thats deep enough for Thomas Gallagher… He scores on the sac fly. Aquinas remains a half-game back of Logan winning eight-nothing. Ten-and-oh in the Three Rivers La Crescent. hosting ten-and-one Saint Charles. Lancers down three and down to their final out with a runner on second. First baseman Derek McCready able to play the one-hop to end the game. Saint Charles beating La Crescent 5-2. Aquinas and Tomah represent the past four M-V-C girls soccer champs. they square off this evening. Bluegolds strike early. Off the corner kick Ellie Copps sneaks one past traffic and into the goal. Aquinas up 1-0 2nd half. Olivia Fox recieves the pass and she takes care of the rest. She finds the back of the net to put the Bluegolds up two…. They would add one more as they get the win tonight 3-0 M-V-C golfers spending the afternoon out at Coulee Golf Bowl. Par four-first . Holmen’s Will Siebenaller . nice roll to sink this par . finishes with an 84. All Ona today . Austin Roesler . nice use of the wedge to set up for par . he finishes third with an 80. finishers today are all Hilltoppers. as Onalaska places first. Central High School hosting the Willard Hanson track and field invite. Girls 100 meter hurdles. Close one between Jamie Schmitz and Amanda Wiebke. But its Schmitz of Cashton who wins with a time of 16.28…. Boys 110 meter hurdles. Austin Collins-Martin of Central pulls away late and wins with a time of 16.22 Central girls place second behind Verona. And the Onalaska boys win big with a 35-point cushion.
