Little Girl Hit By 105 MPH Foul Ball At Yankee Stadium, Hospitalized

SHE WAS NEAR THE THIRD BASE DUGOUT IN A SECTION WITH NO PROTECTIVE NETTING. EVEN MAJOR LEAGUE PLAYERS ARE RESPONDING TO THE DANGER IN THE BALL PARK. Reporter: THE BASEBALL CAME OFF TODD FRAZIER’S BAT AT 105 MILES PER HOUR, SHOOTING INTO THE STANDS AND INTO THE FACE OF A TODDLER. EVERYBODY IN THE FIELD WAS LOOKING INTO THE STANDS AND ALMOST NOT ABLE TO LOOK. Reporter: AS MEDICAL STAFF ATTENDED TO THE GIRL, THE GAME BECAME AN AFTERTHOUGHT. THE SEVERITY OF THE SITUATION WAS WRITTEN ON THE FACES OF FANS AND PLAYERS. SOME IN TEARS. SOME IN PRAYER. HERE AT YANKEES STADIUM THEY DON’T HAVE THE EXTENDED NETTING HERE. Reporter: THE YOUNG GIRL WAS CARRIED OUT AND TAKEN TO A NEARBY HOSPITAL. FRASIER WAS EMOTIONAL AT HIS LOCKER. I THOUGHT OF MY KIDS, YOU KNOW? I HAVE TWO KIDS UNDER THREE YEARS OLD. I DON’T CARE ABOUT THE DAMN VIEW OF A FAN OR WHAT. Reporter: MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL DOES NOT MANDATE PROTECTIVE NETTING IN THE AREA BEHIND HOME PLATE. THEY ONLY RECOMMEND IT. ONLY A FRACTION OF TEAMS EMPLOY THE NETTING. THERE ARE MORE FANS INJURED IN THE STANDS THAN THERE ARE BATTERS HIT IN THE BATTER’S BOX IN A GIVEN YEAR. Reporter: MIAMI ATTORNEY JACK HERSCOWITS SAYS MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL HAS NOT EXTENDED SAFETY NETS BECAUSE THEY’RE NOT LIABLE FOR ERRANT BALL OR BAT INJURIES AT STADIUMS. KNOWN AS THE BASIC RULE. MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL GIVES LIP SERVICE TO FAN SAFETY BUT DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT. AND IF PREPARED TO SUE, THEY WOULD PROBABLY LOSE THE CASE BASED ON THE BASEBALL RULE. A STUDY FOUND MORE THAN 1,700 FANS ARE INJURED BY FOUL BALLS EVERY YEAR. THE YANKEES ARE EXPLORING OPTIONS ON EXTRA PROTECTION. THE PIRATES INSTALLED EXTRA NETTING BEFORE THE START OF THIS SEASON. THEY EXTENDED IT FROM BEHIND HOME PLATE TO THE END OF THE DUGOUT. THE TEAM SAID IT WAS TO PROTECT FANS FROM FOUL BALLS

  1. Over here in Ireland, we have high nets in our GAA Football and hurling games behind the goals each end, fans who sit behind these ends of the pitch never complain about the viewing because of high safety nets..So it should be brought in for baseball ..

  2. I was kinda surprised at the hitters reaction. I could tell there’s a deep sadness and guilt. Most importantly is that the little girl is ok.

  3. y’all just want to blame someone for every little thing. it’s no ones fault in any of this! it’s not the stadiums, not the parents, not the batters, not even the balls fault.

  4. What about the responsibility of her parents? They chose to take her to a game. She did not have free will. Sure the ball players feel bad but it is the parents’ responsibility ultimately.

  5. So MLB won't mandate netting because they know they won't get sued from injures? Yet another reason to hate baseball.

  6. Seriously stop blaming the parents. Did they actually think danger was gonna come to their kid at a sports game? Nah.

  7. Can someone please explain to me , why in the hell there are little kids in the audience if this kind of accidents happens many times and it's actually dangerous??!!

  8. I truly love baseball players and fans. They're players are always the most humble and caring for eachother and their fans.

  9. Why is a baby there? It's stupid af. Shame on her parents. It's the same thing as bringing babies to amusement parks. WHY CAN'T THE PARENTS JUST WAIT TO BRING THEIR KIDS TO THESE THINGS UNTIL THEY CAN ACTUALLY REMEMBER WHATS GOING ON?😔 smdh…

  10. Just got to know the story, that's how much I care for baseball. I hope the girl will live a normal life. It's amazing she still got both eyes, albeit one needs extra care.

  11. This is why you don't take toddlers to a baseball games! Trust me, they don't give a shit about a game. It's always the parents that think taking them to their first game so young is special 🙄

  12. It's up to the baseball clubs needs to have netting or families will not be able to bring there children which would be such a shame

  13. Players can simply stop playing. A TEAM refuses to play until a net is installed and the net will be up in hours..Sure there will be issues but that's why they call it the GOOD FIGHT and not the easy fight.

  14. I just love the fact that the players are more worried about the toddler and their not worried about anything else

  15. okay i feel rly bad but why would u bring ur toddler around a big crowd, at a baseball game, with a whole bunch of drunk ppl! i mean yeah it’s sad but why would you bring ur toddler to a baseball game i mean come on!!

  16. Sad situation right here. No one is to blame, just a Horrible accident and hope and pray for the child injured.. We never know what can happen in any of our lives each and every day. Let alone when you are out and about with all that is going on in The World Today. However, right here with this story,, God Bless the child.

  17. (A) put up extended netting or (B) don't bring your infant to a baseball game and sit in the dangerous seats

  18. I’m so sorry for that little girl…. I can’t imagine how much of a concussion she has… I hope she will recover fast!😓 those players too tho……….

  19. You have a choice where to sit. If there is no net, DON'T SIT THERE!!! I don't know who makes the rules, but if it is the Yankee franchise decision and not necessarily an absolute rule by MLB then either they lose those ticket sales, they put up a net, or people will get beaned. You as a spectator have a choice to not sit there. Parents are ultimately responsible here for putting their child in danger. Tigers look cute at the zoo, but you wouldn't let your child get too close either.

  20. Baffled me all my life how these sports guys & English cricketers can hit a rock solid ball into a crowd, I’m surprised more haven’t died from head injuries

  21. MLB is a sham. They do not give a rats ass about people; just their money. I’d like to see MLB get successfully sued for billions.

  22. They should all have extended netting period. It's bullshit how these filthy rich ball club owners or stadium owners are so greedy they refuse to put their fans saftey first. Especially children!! They should also make it a rule that children must sit in seats behind the netting.

  23. 1700 hurt in 1699 usually are on their cell phones not paying attention to the game that they came to watch me a f**** break it said that a little girl got hit but you know what s*** happens you don't want to take that chance then don't go to the dam Ball Park watching on TV

  24. Parents keep bringing babys in foul balls territory..they should make one side all under netting ..those will be family friendly seating …that no balls will be able to inter the stands..

  25. The weird thing is my last name is Yahnke
I am very very very very glad that the girl is ok that is amazing that a three year old recovered from a 105 mph ball that is a miracle right their

  26. I would rather get hit by a baseball than getting hit by a baseball bat.
    What would you choose?

  27. Hahaha stupid fkn girl shouldnt have taken her eye off the ball…zero sympathy at all for the bastard…

  28. The family can’t bring forth a lawsuit 😑… hope the princess recovers fully and sending her and the family much love and support

  29. Whoever hit the ball into the stands is completely innocent! He did nothing wrong, there should have been nets!

  30. You don’t give a damn about fans view of the game? Ok I no longer care about going to a game and paying your salary, so go ahead and put a fence up all the way around the stadium, replace the baseball with a beach ball all because parents are stupid enough to bring a toddler or a baby to the game and sit in a section where line drives are most likely, when my kid was a toddler I sat in a different section to keep them safe now that they are 13-14 we would sit on the sidelines so they could get autographs from players before the game and have a chance to get a souvenir game ball tossed to them but that’s all gone now since the stadium is now a prison thanks to a few stupid parents

  31. Almost everyone that gets hit is a girl with her phone out which youd think would make people pay more attention but they dont

  32. This is almost killing kids and people either close it the fuck down or make a law to where you can sue them for all you ducking want

  33. Strange reaction maybe because of cameras. Most of these players beat their wives. So showing empathy for this is hard to believe.

  34. Why the hell would the players feel guilty? Did they bring a child into foul territory seating, and then fail to watch out for them? No. Put the blame where it belongs – the ignorant "parents".
