  1. Sad memories. Rugby teammate of mine who liked to enjoy life was singing this song with me a couple of weeks before he was killed in a car crash. This and Copperhead Road. Forever dedicated to him.

  2. Of course, I always just love Kenny's songs(that story telling method was always interesting and unique, he was great at it)!! I learned a lot from this song and it's very positive today!! Anybody who is into gambling, needs to hear this song and understand what it's saying. Kenny Rogers is to me one of the best singers, I've ever heard perform a song that he only knows how to do!!!! This song is still very powerful today(2019) as it was in the early 80's!! Thanks for teaching us, Kenny Rogers.

  3. My friends think I'm wierd listening to classic music like this as I'm only 25. Personally I wish I was alive when this music was coming out it's so relaxing and if you listen to the lyrics it's actually good advice 😁

  4. This is the song that has been stuck in my head for years. Whenever I get bored at work , I start whistling. Its always this song that comes to mind.

  5. I pinned it alone and it most certainly said skilled baron and all cops are useless and paperwork doesn't lie

  6. When Kenny Rogers was younger i just thought his voice was so darn sexy!! One of my favorite old tine county singers

  7. Every time I hear ol school
Reminds me of a time I cherish the most. When I was a kid with grandma and grandpa camping sitting by the fire or at their house
    Love you so much RIP

  8. Top tunes Kenny mine, s went to the universe 🌌 πŸ™ Amen love 🌈,βœοΈπŸ•―οΈπŸ“–πŸ™πŸŒˆπŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒ πŸŒΏπŸ•ŠοΈπŸ’«πŸŒŽ

  9. Song is about life itself. Only if todays generation knew the hardships life will have in store for them

  10. On a warm summer's eve
On a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler
We were both too tired to sleep
    So we took turns a-starin'
Out the window at the darkness
    The boredom overtook us,
    And he began to speak

He said, "Son, I've made a life
    Out of readin' people's faces
    Knowin' what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind me sayin'
I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
    I'll give you some advice"

So I handed him my bottle
And he drank down my last swallow
    Then he bummed a cigarette
And asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet
And his faced lost all expression
He said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy
You gotta learn to play it right

You've got to know when to hold 'em
    Know when to fold 'em
    Know when to walk away
    And know when to run
    You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
    When the dealin's done

    Every gambler knows
    That the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away
    And knowin' what to keep
    'Cause every hand's a winner
    And every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for is to die
    in your sleep

    And when he finished speakin'
He turned back toward the window
    Crushed out his cigarette
    And faded off to sleep
    And somewhere in the darkness
    The gambler he broke even
    But in his final words
I found an ace that I could keep

You've got to know when to hold 'em
    Know when to fold 'em
    Know when to walk away
    And know when to run
    You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
    When the dealin's done

You've got to know when to hold 'em (when to hold 'em)
Know when to fold 'em (when to fold 'em)
    Know when to walk away
    And know when to run
    You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
    When the dealin's done

You've got to know when to hold 'em
    Know when to fold 'em
    Know when to walk away
    And know when to run
    You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
    When the dealin's done

  11. I may not gamble in this manner, however I do like to gamble and I know when to walk away,I don’t run, I do read the whole body, facial expressions, demeanor, then the dealing is done!

  12. Can you remember the last time a set of lyrics, telling a story as good as this (or any story at all !) , was in the charts ?
It's just black guys singing about their dicks now.

  13. When I was a little girl I was in love with Kenny & Dolly.i used to pray they would get married. I think it may still be in the back of my mind. Lol

  14. πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈπŸ‡§πŸ‡·πŸ‡§πŸ‡·

  15. Who couldn't like the song, but only now when I'm 39 years old, do I realize just how ingrained into the culture gambling is in America. It's the most foundational value of the whole damn society.

  16. There is no god damn denying this bc I pinned it alone and it most certainly said skilled baron and all cops are useless and you all were warned

  17. What a legend showing people the best advise in life through the concept of a game of poker what a subject to relate to society
