Is the side of the table in or out | Table Tennis | PingSkills

Is the side of the table considered in our
out? The rule states that the ball has to hit the
top of the table to be in. If it hits the side it’s out. Now the only time this is a
real issue is if they have hit the ball from outside the line of the table. If you’ve hit
the ball from out there then the ball can come here and it can hit the side of the table
or it could come and hit the top of the table or it could come and hit the edge of the table.
So what’s in and what’s out? If it hits the side it’s out. If it hits the top or the edge
it’s in. The easy one is if the ball comes and hits
the back edge of the table. So if it hits there then it’s always in because it’s almost
impossible for them to hit the shot to go out and then come down and hit the back of
the table. So that is an easy decision. If it hits the table it’s in. So take a look at these examples and you can
now be the umpire

  1. Dear Alois,
Good morning. I wanted to ask you a question. While serving or returning, the ball touches the finger or some part of the playing hand. Is it right or wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

  3. Thanks for the video! Nice examples at the end too. There've been a couple of instances when this ruled applied in the recent Ma Long vs Fan Zhendong final.

  4. One guy at our school thought he was so smart because he was trying to say that if you hit the side of the table the wooden part counts and the part below it thats metal or whatever doesnt

  5. Coach Alois,
I have noticed that Ma Long changed his default serve at the 2016 World Tour Grand Finals. Is there a reason behind this?

  7. Would like a video that has the play that happens with your explanation of the minute 1:28 that has been the point of the attacker. Can someone pass me a link? An ITTF game. A friend told me that if the attack is on the outside and touching the edge of the table is not worth it. I want a video that proves otherwise please
