How to Be a Baseball Umpire : Making Close Calls as a Baseball Umpire

Alright in this clip we are going to tell
you a little bit about what an umpire has to go through emotionally about every close
call whether it is right on the knees, right on the led, right on the paint or right on
the outside somebody is going to be unhappy so the umpire has to listen to them and they’re
going to bad mouth you, come on blue what do you mean? But that is what you get paid
for, it is not only calling the game you’ve got to put up with all the what everybody
says, all the spectators, all the players, nobody is happy if a close call goes against
them. Alright so now you have umpires that don’t care, but I care. Every call I want
to be 100% at all times so sometimes it does get to you when it is a close call and somebody
complaints about it because you want to be perfect but it is impossible, even the pros
who are getting paid $100,000 can make every call every time 100% so you have got to have
thick skin, just try your hardest and call them like you’ve seen them. And remember the
umpire is always right. He has got the final call, nobody can argue it, the umpire has
the last say. Let’s go, you ready?

  1. This guy's casual attitude towards umpiring is OK for Little League. At that level, I don't have a problem with the zippered shirt, the lack of plate pants, etc, but the backwards hat HAS TO GO.

  2. The guy's hat is backwards because he has to put a mask over top of it. Where fo you expect the bill of the hat to go when he puts the mask on?

  3. Well yeah, but the mask that he puts on doesn't look the same as the MLB ones. I know when I played youth ball, the umps always had their hats backwards because the mask didn't accommodate the hat's bill.

  4. @300Z31

Well A when was the last time you saw a professional umpire wear a hat backwards. Hell i am a 16 year old ump and I think that is a disgrace to umpires. If it good enough for the pros its good enough for us.

  5. @Igotgame911 I don't know man. I mean, I just don't see how just because he's wearing his hat backwards, it's a "disgrace" to anything. Some people just wear their hats that way. Maybe it's more comfortable for him.

  6. @Igotgame911 Ok, and that's your opinion. That doesn't mean it's a disgrace to baseball. I mean, don't you think that's a LITTLE harsh? Honestly, who gives a fuck how he wears his hat? You don't see this guy talking about how wearing your hat front-ways is wrong, do you? So who cares?

  7. @Igotgame911 I didn't say you should. And I never said that I think HE should. All I said was, people getting all worked up over it, and calling it a disgrace to the game…is ridiculous.

  8. @Igotgame911 have you ever tried to put a mask on with your hat forwards? It doesnt work…. thats why its backwards…..

  9. @SkateSolutions Yes, I can get my mask off with a six-stitch or eight-stitch hat (unless I'm wearing my Wilson "New View" mask, which only works with a ≤6-stitch). Look at MLB umpires (lots of pics on google). All of them wear at least six-stich hats and none of them ever wears them backwards. They even make four-stitch brim hats for umpires. Wearing your hat backwards makes you look like a slob, and umpires shouldn't look like slobs, especially if they're going to post on YouTube as "experts."

  10. This umpire needs to get a fitted hat, wear the fitted cap forward, zip up his shirt, not wear a green undershirt, and use the indicator in his left hand.

  11. fuckstop bashing the guy… I know he's not a professional and I bet most people here are cause if you didnt care why would you watch this crap, but where I first started out everyone didn't give 2 shits about what went on and fuck hes umping 8 year olds and has the right to make videos so fuck who cares

  12. I know this is an old comment, but I umpire at several different levels and the issue is about professionalism. Perception is reality and when you look like a slob, people will perceive you in a negative light. They'll think you are an amateur who doesn't know the rules and has little experience. Looking professional goes a LONG way, trust me.

  13. DONT WORRY ABOUT WHOS DOING WHAT. PEOPLE ARE JUST VOICING THEIR OPINIONS. EVER HEARD OF FREE SPEECH? IM BEGINNING TO THINK THIS IS YOUR DAD OR A FRIEND AND WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMMENT ON IT BOY!!! SO GO PLAY WITH YOUR BARBIES AND LEAVE THE BIG BOY STUFF TO US.
