Golden Bears Volleyball Season Preview

It’s a new year and a new attitude for the
Golden Bears volleyball team. Following a disappointing quarterfinal exit to Thompson
River and a fourth place finish at nationals. The bears are looking to take what they learned
last season and apply it to this year. ” We were pretty grateful our opportunity last
year at nationals with the VRS ranking system. But this year I’d say something were trying
on working on is trying to be the bad news bears. Its an identity were trying to develop.”
With a dew new faces around the court head coach Brock Davidiuk is proud of where his
team is so far. “I’m really proud of the guys for just how well everyone has come together,
and how well everyone is buying in to what were doing. I don’t think we’ve had a good
last couple of weeks competitively speaking. So thats been kinda a focus of ours, but on
the other hand thats so good final pre season lessons to learn so I’m happy with how the
guys are looking.” This weekend the Golden Bears face off with Trinity Western the defending
national champions a challenge Davidiuck believes his team is up for. ” I think whenever we
play Trinity it’s a big battle last time we played them we beat them in their own gym
so I’d imagine they want to come beat us in our own gym. I think there a very strong team
they got a bunch of guys playing with Canada in the summer at multiple levels so I think
we expect to see a very physical, skilled and well coached team. But I think our guys
are all those as well it’s a really good early season test for us.” The action for both the
Golden Bears and Pandas gets underway this weekend. For the University of Alberta Golden
Bears and Pandas I’m Jordan Clarke.
