Experience paying off for Mustangs

Coming off a 4 and 22 season and adding a new head coach, it could have been another tough year for the Melrose-Mindoro baseball team. However the Mustangs have so far exceeded expectations, and are in the middle of the Dairyland Conference title race. News 8’s Bryan McLoone has more. What a difference a year has made for the Melrose-Mindoro baseball team. People think we’re the underdogs right now. Doing quite a bit better than we were last year. It’s exciting to be a good solid team. The Mustangs are one of the Dairyland conference’s surprise teams this season…sitting 3rd in the standings with a 7-3 record. We come out expecting to win games and we’re competitive. It’s been by far a better year attitude wise. Having lost so many times that last few years. It’s stings…and it’s tough to coach too. And now they have the winning feeling. They are eager to keep winning. First year head coach Joey Arneson only has 2 seniors on the roster, relying mostly on a sophomore class that was thrown into varsity competition a season ago. Now that experience is paying off. They bought into the system. They love playing baseball. They are a great group to coach. They want to learn. They are eager, they are hungry to play baseball. Hungry to play good baseball. With a conference title still very much in reach, Mel-Min wants other teams in the Dairyland to know they are no longer an easy win on the schedule. They got that winning feeling. They wanted it again and now they got it again. So we kept building off the first win. We try to get better with each practice. Each at bat, each pitch, we are trying to better. And the kids have done a really good job of that this year. They think they can beat us. And we’re coming up from the bottom I guess. Bryan McLoone…News 8 Sports WIPE VO
