We are well into Day SIX of the action at
the 2014 Incheon Asian Games… and we are seeing some truly world-class performances
by some of the athletes. Asian records and some WORLD records… are
being shattered at these games. Lots of records being set that is for sure.
It must be a dream come true… not only winning a gold medal… but a smashing the world record
in the process For the latest on this we are joined by our Song Ji-sun who is following
the Asian Games for us. Ji-sun, it was only the quarterfinals, but
the South Korean women set a world record in compound archery team event this morning
That′s right. What a performance Almost perfect in fact…
South Korea scored 238 points out of a possible 240 in the women′s compound team quarterfinals
match against Laos. Making the history were Seok Ji-hyun, Choi
Bo-min, Kim Yun-hee and Youn So-jung… beating the previous record of 236 set by the United
States a decade ago. It wasn′t even a medal event and individual
tournament rounds are scheduled throughout the day, so more records may be on way as
we bring the news to you. That′s performance just adds to South Korea′s
global reputation for producing some of the finest archers in the world. Congrats to them
and let′s hope they go on and win the gold Yes, hope so And South Korea′s baseball
team continued their powerful run last night. They look pretty unstoppable at this point
Yeah, some people thought it would be a close game but,… as it turned out,… it was very
one-sided,… not even close. In the group match, between 2010 champions
South Korea and the 2006 champions Chinese Taipei… the Korean baseball team proved
their lineup is stronger than ever… closing out their longtime rival with a called game
after scoring 10-runs. Last night′s group match could be seen as
a preview of the championship game on Sunday… as Korea′s returning to defend their gold
from Guangzhou… and their opponent is the runner-up from the previous Games.
With Kia Tigers′ Yang Hyun-jong taking the mound,… he got some early run support.
South Korea actually scored 7 runs in the 1st inning,… including Nexen Heroes Kang
Jung-ho′s 3-run shot,… and Doosan Bears Oh Jae-won adding a 2-run shot, as well. Korea′s
pitching completely shut out their opponents as the game is called after 8 innings.
Not quite as much of a whitewash as the 15-nothing 5 innings win against Thailand the other day….
but impressive nonetheless.
