And we thought Kobe King’s days as an athlete at Central were over. At a recent banquet. King got talking with former Packers wide receiver Donald Driver. Driver told him you should give track and field a try. TAKE VO King said O.K. He competes in his first ever meet… TAKE VO CENTRAL H.S. this evening at the Hanson Invite at Central High School. King in his high jump debut clears 6 feet 4 inches. He ends it right there after taking first place joking he didn’t want to upset Coach Gard by pushing it. That mark by the way would have been 5th best at last year’s state meet. 800 meter dash. Central goes 1-2-3. Jett Mickelson takes first. Central boys win the team event. Guys 200 meter now, Seth Holden flies through the finish line with a time of 22.16. In the Girls 3200 meter run. Katie Faris of Chipewa Falls would win the race, Not far behind her was Sara Brekke from Central. Eau Claire Memorial winning the girls team title. WIPE VO Onalaska has burst onto the scene for this season’s M-V-C softball championship chase. Hilltoppers four-and-eight a year ago. Now one of four teams tied atop the conference standings. TAKE VO Onalaska hosting Holmen… TAKE VO MVC SOFTBALL both teams with just two losses in M-V-C play. 1st inning action, Hallie Schmeling absolutely crushes the ball to center. A no doubter. The solo shot puts ona on the board first. In the bottom of the third. Alexa Durazo delivers a clutch 2 out single up the middle. Two runs would score to extend the Hilltopper lead to 3. More insurrance runs in the fifth. The ball gets by the catcher, 2 runs would score off of an overthrow back to the pitcher, to make it a 5-0 game. Sarah Kraus brought a no hit bid into the 7th, She was unable to complete the no hitter, But does get the complete game shut out. It’s a really difficult conference and they are such a good team, and you know last time we went into extra innings with them, and it was a good game, and its just really nice to come out here, and you know play a good team and win. The goal is to just keep playing seven innings stong, and really just keep producing. we have aquinas which is a really good team too, and we just gotta keep our game on and don’t let our guard down Second to last M-V-C golf meet before the conference championship finale. On the par 5 Sparta’s Brett Von Ruden drains a nice 15 foot putt to save par. He shoots a 78 on way to medalist honors. Next hole, Par 3 for Onalaska’s Baily Visker, He hits a great shot inside of 20 feet, He would two putt to earn par as well. However, The shot of the day goes to Holmen’s Will Sibenaller. He nearly puts this ball in. He would tap in for the easy birdie. 2. Team winner today is Onalaska who fires a 331. It’s a clean slate for the five teams earning an invite to the W-I-A-C softball tournament. Winner of the three day championship earns an automatic bid to the NCAA tourney. TAKE VO UW-La Crosse winning … TAKE VO GAMES BEGIN FRIDAY AT WHITEWATER …the WIAC tournament just one time prior. back in 2010. They are the number-two seed this year. Eagles enter tomorrow’s opening game against UW-Oshkosh having won eight of their last ten. We were able to sweep Eau Claire, sweep Oshkosh which are two of the top four teams in the region along with us and Whitewater. So we feel good about those results but again it’s a new season. We have to be zoned in and ready to go. La Crosse Central grad Brittany Baldwin has ignited the Eagles offense all season long with her speed. As a junior her 59 career steals is already a UWL program record. her 33 steals this year is a single season record. But Baldwin didn’t step on campus thinking about making a raid on the record books. I never really thought about it. My freshman year I didn’t do a whole lot of stealing. Last year I got into it a little bit more tying the record. And this year I think we really went after it so I’ve been able to get a lot this season which has been nice. She’s a real sparkplug and has been since the day she showed up a few years ago. 33 stolen bases this year. Anytime she gets on base we have a great chance to bring her in. She makes a huge impact for us. Winona State opens up play in the N-S-I-C Softball Tournament with a nine-four win. Jordyn Kleman pitches the final three innings and gets the save. Next up is third-seed Augustana tomorrow at noon.
